GENERAL FAQ

•  Why do I need to change the belts on my vacuum?

Belts are made of rubber and will stretch and wear out. The belt runs the brush roll thousands of revolutions per minute, so the tighter or newer the belt, the better the vacuum performs. You’ll need your model number to order the right belt.

• How often should I change by vacuum’s bag or empty my dust cup?

Generally, you should change your vacuum bag once a month and empty your dust cup when it is two-thirds full. We recommend more frequent bag changes if your home is large, if you have children and/or pets or if there is heavy foot traffic in your home. You should also change the bag more than once a month if you're cleaning fine dust and debris, since both reduce the filtration through the bag. Change the bag immediately if the dirt is above the line printed on the bag.

• Does my vacuum have a filter?

It is rare to have a vacuum without some sort of filter inside. Even vacuums with filters that never need to be changed, still need the filter cleaned out from time to time. It is always a good idea to search your unit or check online for the location of the filter and maintain its cleanliness, to optimize your unit’s performance.

• How often should I change my filters? Should I be cleaning my filters?

If you have a filter in your dust cup, you should be emptying your cup and cleaning off you filter after every use. Most filters are cleaned by gently knocking them against the edge of your trash container. Some are even washable, but in those cases, it really means you can only rinse it under a slow moving stream of water. Be careful to not rub the paper on your filter, as to not create a hole in it. We recommend changing filters every 3 to 4months. If your filter seems to get dirty faster, then you should change it more often.

• When should I replace the belt?

Check the agitator belt periodically for signs of wear. Typically, it should be replaced every 12 months. Refer to your Owner’s Guide for detailed replacement instructions.

• What if I am having trouble installing my bag or filter?

The first step would be to check your vacuum brand’s website for the owner’s manual for your vacuum. The owner's manual will provide instructions on how to install the bag or filter.

• What is HEPA?

Filters made to strict HEPA standards trap particles 75 times smaller than a human hair. This includes 99.97% of dust mite debris, animal dander, molds and pollen.

Arm & Hammer FAQ

• What are Fresh-ins?

Fresh-ins are small white pouches packed with the natural power of baking soda and are emptied into a new vacuum bag or empty dust cup. The crystals inside each packet neutralize odors inside and outside the vacuum. From pet smells to moldy closets, Fresh-ins eliminates unpleasant odors and leave a fresh, clean scent in the air after vacuuming.

• What is ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda?

Baking Soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is a naturally occurring substance that is found in all living things, where it helps regulate their pH balance. ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda is made from soda ash, also known as sodium carbonate. To make ARM & HAMMER Baking soda, the soda ash is mined in the form of an ore called trona. The soda ash is then dissolved into a solution through which carbon dioxide is bubbled and sodium bicarbonate precipitates out, forming “Pure, Safe and Natural” ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda.

• What is the Power of Baking Soda?

As dirty air passes through the vacuum bag or filter, ARM & HAMMER® baking soda particles neutralize odor bearing chemicals. As a result, clean, odor-free air is released into your home.

• Is the ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda used in its natural state in the vacuum bags and filters or is it changed for use in these products?

In our vacuum bags and filters, ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda is added as part of a special, proprietary, treatment to provide maximum deodorization in a small space.

• Do the ARM & HAMMER vacuum bags and filters deodorize?

ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda’s deodorization power is legendary! Baking soda has been used for generations to tackle tough deodorizing jobs - especially in your refrigerator and freezer. Now you can clean your home and neutralize odors from food, pets and other naturally occurring sources by using vacuum bags and filters coated with ARM & HAMMER baking soda!

• What can ARM & HAMMER vacuum bags and filters do to deodorize carpet and upholstery?

The vacuum process removes the dirt and debris and transports it to the bag or dust container. When it is no longer in your carpet or upholstered furniture it can no longer “ferment” and create the acidic fumes associated with unpleasant odors.

• Are ARM & HAMMER vacuum bags and filters safe for pets and children?

Yes. ARM & HAMMER vacuum bags and filters are as safe as the manufacturer branded vacuum bags and filters.
